Abstract

ABSTRACT Many students experienced difficulties in speaking English, which becomes an obstacle for them in the English conversation program. This research explained the difficulties faced by female students in speaking English within the English conversation program at Pondok Modern Makkah Islamic Boarding School. This research used a qualitative method. The researcher selected female students as the sample of this research, which consist 72 students but in the interview the researcher only take 12 participants who get low score in speaking English to get more spesific data. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interviews, and documentation. For analysis the data, the researcher applied Miles, Huberman and saldana theory, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. of From the data analysis, the researcher found several conclusions regarding the difficulties faced by female students in speaking English in the English conversation program at Pondok Modern Makkah. First, researcher found that female students’ difficulties in speaking during English conversation program were: lack vocabulary, comprehendsion. pronunciation, grammar, fluency, Furthermore, the causes contributing to these difficulties in speaking English within the conversation program were the students fear of making mistake, felt shyness, and lack motivation.
