Abstract

ABSTRACT THE EFFECTS OF INQUIRY PROJECT-BASED LEARNING ON STUDENTS WRITING SKILLS IN ENGLISH This research is aimed to obtain the empirical evidence about the effect of inquiry project based learning on students‟ writing skills of narrative text at the tenth grade studentsof SMAN 1 Sumberejo Tanggamus.The writer used quasi-experimental researchwhich classified into a quantitative research. The population of the research was 69 students from two classes. The sample was chosen by using cluster random sampling technique which selected into the experimental class and the controlled class. It consisted of 35 in experimental class and 34 students in controlled class. Sample of the research are X.E1 as experimental class and X.E3 as controlled class. Moreover, the writer used the pre-test and the post test as the instruments of the research. In the experimental class,the writer used inquiry project-based learning in teaching writing of narrative text while in the controlled class, the writer taught the students by implementing the conventional teaching technique such as giving them description from students book and asking the students to do the written exercises. In addition,the writer collected the data of this research by following some steps such as providing the pre-test, providing the treatments during conducted the research, and at the end of the research, the writer gave the post test. After giving the pre-test and post-test, the researcher analyzed the data. From the data analysis, the result can be seen from significance value (Asymp. Sig. 2-tailed) based on the results of the Mann-Whitney U test where the significance value (Asymp. Sig. 2 tailed) of <0.001, which means it is less than 0.05. So, H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted. So, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of Inquiry project-based learning on students writing ability of narrative text at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sumberejo Tanggamus in the 2024/2025 academic year.
