Abstract

ABSTRACT The abstract of this study explain provides a concise overview of the study's focus, methodology, findings, and implications regarding the relationship between students' motivation and their speaking skills. Here are the main points. Research Objective the study aims to explore the relationship between two variables: students' motivation (variable X) and their speaking skills (variable Y). It emphasizes a descriptive research design, which seeks to understand the degree of relationship rather than establishing causation between these variables. Study Setting the research was conducted at SMP 31 Bandar Lampung, specifically targeting eighth-grade students during the 2024/2025 academic year. The school is noted for its adequate infrastructure and emphasis on moral and religious principles, which may influence the learning environment. Data Collection the data was gathered through questionnaires and speaking tests, involving a sample of 28 students. This dual approach allows for a comprehensive assessment of both motivation and speaking ability. Statistical Analysis the researcher utilized regression linear analysis with SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Science) to test the hypotheses. The results indicated a significant effect of students' motivation on their speaking ability, with a significance value (sig) of 0.001, which is below the 0.05 threshold, thus supporting the alternative hypothesis. Hypotheses Tested the study tested two hypotheses alternative hypothesis (Ha). There is a significant effect of students' motivation on their speaking ability. Null Hypothesis (H0) There is no significant effect of students' motivation on their speaking ability. The findings supported the alternative hypothesis, indicating that motivation plays a crucial role in enhancing speaking skills.Educational Implications The research underscores the importance of fostering student motivation to improve speaking skills, suggesting that educators should implement strategies to enhance motivation for better learning outcomes.
