Abstract

ABSTRACT The background of this research was based on the findings from preliminary interviews with English teachers at SMKN 1 Tulang Bawang Tengah, particularly in the Computer and Network Engineering department. The interviews revealed that students showed low interest and focus during English lessons, especially in learning vocabulary. This was due to the use of traditional teaching methods, such as printed books, which failed to attract students' attention. In particular, students experienced difficulties in understanding and using adjective vocabulary in the correct context. Considering the lack of audio-visual learning tools used in class, the researcher decided to apply videocast media to enhance vocabulary learning, aiming to make the process more engaging and effective. This study employed a quantitative research approach using a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group. The researcher selected this method to measure and compare students' vocabulary achievement before and after treatment. The sample consisted of two groups: an experimental group that received learning through videocasts and a control group that continued with conventional learning. The content of the videocast was carefully adjusted to match the learning objectives, especially focusing on the use of adjective vocabulary. Based on the analysis of the research data, the results indicated that although there was an increase in students' vocabulary scores after the treatment, the improvement was not statistically significant. Normality and homogeneity tests showed that the data met the necessary assumptions (Sig. > 0.05). However, the independent sample t-test revealed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.452, which is greater than 0.05. This means there was no significant influence of using videocast media on students’ vocabulary achievement. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of videocast did not significantly improve vocabulary mastery among eleventh-grade students in the 2024/2025 academic year.
