Abstract

ABSTRACT THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ ENGLISH LEARNING INTEREST AND THEIR ENGLISH SCORE AT SMK SMTI BANDAR LAMPUNG By Selvinda Anggri In learning English in high school, each student has different interest. Renninger and Hidi described that interest is a psychological state and a motivational disposition that arises from the interplay between an individual's traits and their surroundings. It energizes learning, guides academic and career trajectories, and is important to academic success. Therefore, this study conducted to know whether there is a significant correlation between students’ English learning interest and their English score at SMK SMTI Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2024/2025. The research methodology used was correlational research. The population of this research was the first grade students of SMK SMTI Bandar Lampung, it included 359 students from ten classes. There were 190 students taken as the sample of this study. To take the sample, the researcher used stratified random sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaires and documentation. They were students’ interest questionnaires and document of scores. The instrument of questionnaires consisted of 17 items. In analyzing the data, the researcher used SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) 26.0 version. From the result of hypothetical test, it showed the significant value was 0,570. This meant the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected and the null hypothesis (H0) was accepted because the significant value > 0,05. In other words, it could be concluded that there was a significant correlation between students’ English learning interest and their English score at SMK SMTI Bandar Lampung.
