Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the use of symbolic communication in theatrical arts as a medium of Islamic preaching (da'wah) by the Lima Rasa Arts Community in Bandar Lampung City. This is a qualitative descriptive research aimed at describing and understanding the phenomenon of symbolic communication in theater as a da'wah medium within the Lima Rasa Arts Community in Bandar Lampung. The study seeks to explore in depth the processes and contexts of da'wah through theatrical art, as well as its impact on religious awareness and understanding among the public. The research employed interview and documentation techniques for data collection. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews and participatory observation, while secondary data consisted of literature studies, relevant documents, and materials related to the research topic. All data served to describe symbolic communication in theatrical arts as a medium for da'wah in the Lima Rasa Arts Community. The results of the study indicate that theater in the Lima Rasa Community is effective in conveying da'wah messages through the use of appropriate and meaningful symbols. Verbal and non-verbal language, as well as visual symbols such as costumes and stage settings, are used to reinforce moral and religious messages. Additionally, artifacts and rituals used in the performances help create an emotional connection with the audience, making the da'wah messages easier to receive and internalize. In conclusion, symbolic communication in theatrical art is a highly effective and relevant medium for da'wah, especially within the context of local culture.
