Abstract

ABSTRACT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING AI PAPAGO APPLICATION TOWARD STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT TENTH GRADE OF SMAN 7 BANDAR LAMPUNG This research was conducted by using quasi-experimental design. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using the AI-powered Papago application in enhancing students' vocabulary mastery among tenth-grade students at SMAN 7 Bandar Lampung. However, students often faced challenges in retaining and applying new vocabulary. Integrating advanced technologies like AI can provide personalized, contextually accurate, and interactive learning experiences. The research focused on five types of vocabulary—nouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, and Conjunction—commonly encountered in descriptive texts. Employing a quantitative research design, the study examines the impact of Papago's translation and learning features on vocabulary acquisition. Data was collected through pre-test and post-test, a long side qualitative feedback from students and teachers to evaluate the application's usability and effectiveness. The findings were expected to demonstrate the potential of AI applications like Papago to address vocabulary learning challenges, increase student engagement, Data collected through pre-tests and post-tests, analyzed using SPSS 27. The results of the independent sample t-test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.004, which is less than the significance level of 0.05 (α = 0.05). This results! indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, demonstrating a significant difference in students' vocabulary mastery after using Papago. In the context of pre-tests and post-tests, this result suggests that the intervention or treatment (such as using Papago for vocabulary mastery) had a significant effect. Therefore, the intervention was effective on students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of SMAN 7 Bandar Lampung.
