Abstract

ABSTRACT This research discusses the relationship between the habit of reading English stories on Wattpad and students' reading comprehension of narrative text. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between the habit of reading English stories on Wattpad and students' reading comprehension of narrative text in class XI MIPA-1 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sekampung Udik, Lampung timur academic year 2023/2024. The research method used is quantitative correlational. The population of this research is class XI students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sekampung Udik, Lampung Timur. The sample used in the research was students of class XI MIPA-1 odd semester The research used two research instruments, namely a questionnaire for the habit of reading English stories in the Wattpad application and multiple choice questions for reading comprehension in narrative text for class XI MIPA-1 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sekampung Udik, Lampung Timur academic year 2023/2024. Reading Comprehension is seen from several indicators, namely, identifying topic, identifying main idea, identifying detail, identifying reference of pronoun, figuring out the meaning of vocabulary in context, identifying explicit and implicit meaning. Data collection techniques use questionnaires and reading comprehension tests. The results of this research indicate that the hypothesis (Ho) is accepted and the research hypothesis (Ha) is rejected, which states that there is a negative correlation between students' habit of reading English stories on Wattpad and reading comprehension in narrative text. There is an insignificant correlation between students' habits of reading English stories on Wattpad and reading comprehension in narrative texts. It can be seen from the test results using Spearman correlation calculations which show that there is no correlation between students' habits of reading English stories on Wattpad and reading comprehension in narrative texts, namely Spearman's rho value is 0.267 with an r table value of 0.412 Keywords: Wattpad application, narrative text, reading habits, reading comprehension.
