Abstract

ABSTRACT THE INFLUENCE OF USING CAKE APPLICATION TOWARD STUDENTS’ LISTENING SKILLIN A VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL OF BANDAR LAMPUNG BY : USMAN Many students still face challenges in learning English, particularly in classroom teaching and learning processes.One of the difficulties students face in learning English is listening. Listening is one of the essential skills in English language learning.To address this issue, the researcher employed the Cake application as a teaching medium to enhance the listening skills of tenth-grade students at SMKN 1 Bandar Lampung. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Cake application significantly affected students' listening skills before and after its implementation. This study employed a quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test design with treatment.In this study, the researcher used an experimental method using a quasi experimental pre-test-post-test group design. The pre-test was given before the treatment was given. After the treatment was completed, the researcher gave a post-test to the students. Finally, the pre-test and post-test scores were compared to find the answer to the research question. The population of this study was tenth grade students of semester one of SMKN 1 Bandar Lampung. The population consisted of six classes (A to F) with a total of 200 students, comprising 70 male and 130 female students . The sample was taken using cluster random sampling technique. Researchers took two classes, consisting of experimental and control classes The Tata Boga class (30 students) was selected as the experimental group, while the Marketing class (30 students) served as the control group. Data were collected using a listening test for both pre-test and post-test, covering the topics 'Camping,' 'Thirsty Pocket,' and 'Look Up from Your Phone' From the results of data analysis, the Mann-Whitney test results show that the resulting significant value is Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) <.001 < 0.050. Sig. Based on these results, it was concluded that there wasa significant effect of using the Cake application on students' listening skills in class X students of SMKN 1 Bandar Lampung. Students reported increased interest in listening activities, as the application's interactive features created an engaging and enjoyable learning atmosphere.
