Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of the research is to find out the influence of self-directed dialog technique towards the students speaking ability at the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Lahat in the academic year of 2023/2024. From the result of the data analysis, it can be concluded that the self-directed dialog technique gave slightly influence to the students' speaking ability. It can be seen from the result of the pre-test before the treatment was given and the result of the post-test after the treatment. It demonstrates that using the self- directed dialogue technique has a slightly influence towards students‟ speaking ability on the aspects of pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The results of the pre- test and post-test scores show this. The pre-test was 37.73 increased to 62.53 in the experimental class. The mean of the post- test in the control class is 36.86, whereas the mean of the post-test in the experimental class is 42.86, indicating that the experimental class has a higher mean than the control class. The normalitiy test found that the significance score of Saphiro Wilk was < 0,05, it concluded that the score was normally distributed. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted while the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected as a result of SPSS version 25 data processing. The research's asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000 < 0.05. It might be represented as 0.000 < 0.05 or a significance value less than the normal significance level. Overall, it can finally be concluded that self-directed dialog technique gives slightly influence towards the students of eighth grade of SMP Negeri 1 Lahat speaking ability. Keywords: Speaking. Teaching Technique, Self-directed Dialog Technique iii ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh teknik dialog mandiri terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Lahat tahun ajaran 2023/2024. Dari hasil analisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik dialog mandiri memberikan pengaruh signifikan terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil pre-test sebelum perlakuan diberikan dan hasil post-test setelah perlakuan diberikan. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan teknik dialog mandiri memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa dalam aspek pengucapan, tata bahasa, kosa kata, kelancaran, dan pemahaman. Hasil skor pre-test dan post test menunjukkan hal ini. Nilai rata-rata pre-test adalah 37,73 meningkat menjadi 62,53 di kelas eksperimen. Rata-rata post-test di kelas kontrol adalah 36,86, sedangkan rata-rata post-test di kelas eksperimen adalah 42,86, yang menunjukkan bahwa kelas eksperimen memiliki rata-rata yang lebih tinggi daripada kelas kontrol. Uji normalitas menemukan bahwa skor signifikansi Shapiro Wilk adalah < 0,05, sehingga disimpulkan bahwa skor tersebut berdistribusi normal. Hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima, sedangkan hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak sebagai hasil dari pengolahan data menggunakan SPSS versi 25. Nilai asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) dari penelitian ini adalah 0,000 < 0,05. Ini dapat diartikan sebagai 0,000 < 0,05 atau nilai signifikansi kurang dari tingkat signifikansi normal. Secara keseluruhan, akhirnya dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik dialog mandiri memberikan pengaruh signifikan terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Lahat.
