Abstract

ABSTRACT AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ERRORS IN USING QUESTION TAG IN COMPOSING DIALOGUE FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION AT UIN RADEN INTAN LAMPUNG BY BINTANG NURJAYANTI Error analysis referred to a process investigate the students error in learning second language. The objectives of this research were (1) to find out what kind of errors made by students in making question tag in composing dialogue. (2) to find out what source of errors made by students in making question tag in composing dialogue. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The instrument was documentation, in which the students should construct question tag. Data were collected through task and interviews students. The task were analyzed by using surface strategy taxonomy that has four errors classification they were addition, omission, misformation, misordering and the data was calculated percentage statically by way of each frequency data of addition errors, omission errors, misformation and misordering errors. After analyzing the data, the result was found that there were 4 incorrect items. From 4 items the percentage is 100 % students errors in using question when composing dialogue is misformation. While addition, misformation and the last one is misordering 0 item or 0 %. Therefore the result of the research shows that misformation errors are the highest error that made by students. Then based on interview with student after the task the result is most students fell lack understanding of grammar, vocabulary and rules question tag. Some students also mentioned factors such as confusion in placing tag questions and being in a hurry when doing the task so they didn‟t have time to think properly. And also there is student that ignorance of vocabulary and forgot rules question tag. Keyword : Dialogue, Error Analysis, Question Tag
