Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the semantic differences in the Flawless comic that occur due to the translation process between two languages, namely English and Indonesian. This study uses a descriptive-qualitative method and focuses on Mujiyanto's semantic shift theory, which consists of five categories: generalization, specification, substitution, deviation, and reversal. The main instrument in this study is the Webtoon application, the writer's main source for obtaining research data. After the required data has been collected, the writer would analyze it and categorize the results into five tables (based on Mujiyanto's five types of semantic shift). The results show that there are 57 data found based on Mujiyanto's five categories, namely: 13 substitutions, 2 specifications, 15 generalizations, 3 reversals, and 24 deviations. Of the five previous categories, deviation is what the writer often finds in the translation process between Indonesian and English translations.
