Abstract

ABSTRAK Academic stress in writing a thesis is caused by heavy workload and challenges in completing research, this triggers increased pressure during the thesis writing process. Factors that can influence academic stress from this study are hardiness and peer social support. This study aims to determine the relationship between hardiness and peer social support with academic stress in writing a thesis in final year students. The population in this study were final year students at the Sumatra Institute of Technology using quantitative methods and the sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The subjects obtained in this study were 100 people. Data collection used 3 scales, namely the academic stress scale totaling 18 items (α = 0.884), the hardiness scale totaling 25 items (α = 0.903) and peer social support totaling 32 items (α = 0.946). The data analysis technique in this study used multiple regression analysis with the help of JASP 0.19.1.0 for windows software. The results of this study show a value of R = 0.768 with a significant p = 0.001 (p < 0.01), meaning that there is a significant relationship between hardiness and peer social support with academic stress in final year students with an effective contribution of 59% (R² = 0.590).
