Abstract

ABSTRACT The Influence of Flowchart Technique towards Students’ Writing Ability in Descriptive Text at 8th grade of SMPN 1 Bandar Lampung By FINA Writing is a critical skill for students to master in learning English, as it enables them to organize thoughts, express ideas, and prepare for academic and professional settings. This study aimed to address the challenges faced by eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Bandar Lampung in writing descriptive texts. It examined the effectiveness of the flowchart technique in enhancing students' writing abilities by helping them reflect on their learning, ask questions, and summarize key points. The research utilized a quasi-experimental pre-and post-test design involving 180 students as the population, with 62 selected through cluster random sampling. The experimental group and the control group sessions of pretest and posttest assessments. Data analysis using SPSS confirmed the normality and homogeneity of the data, with a sig. (Based on Mean) value of 0.060 > 0.05, ensuring reliable evaluation of the treatment effects. The findings revealed that the flowchart technique significantly improved students' writing skills. A paired sample t-test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.00 < 0.05, confirming the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho). The pre-test mean score of 63.53 increased to 74.88 in the post�test, demonstrating substantial improvement. The study recommends incorporating the flowchart technique into English teaching to effectively enhance students' writing abilities.
