Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the effect of the use of the Give One Get One (GOGO) strategy on the reading comprehension ability of grade XII students at MA Nurul Iman Sekincau, West Lampung. The background of this study is the low reading ability of students, especially in understanding English texts, which is caused by less interactive learning methods. The GOGO strategy was introduced to improve reading comprehension by actively engaging students in discussions and collaboration. The method uses a Pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests before and after the implementation of the GOGO strategy. The test instrument consists of pre test and posttest using news items text designed to measure students' ability to identify key ideas, understand detailed information, and draw conclusions. Data analysis was carried out by comparing the results of the pre-test and post-test using statistical tests. The results of the pre-test showed an average reading ability of 60%, while the results of the post-test increased to 80% with a significant increase of 20%, The statistical test results show a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which indicates that the application of the GOGO strategy has a significant influence on students' reading comprehension abilities. Students demonstrate better abilities in understanding the main idea, recognizing details of information, and drawing conclusions from the text. In addition, students also report that this strategy makes learning more interactive and engaging, thereby increasing their motivation to learn. In conclusion, the GOGO strategy is effective in improving students' reading comprehension skills and can be applied as an innovative method in learning English. This study recommends the wider use of the GOGO strategy and further research to explore its application at different levels of education and other subjects.
