Abstract

ABSTRACT Many different areas of people's lives, including politics, education, the economy, entertainment, business, and other areas, use metaphors.The purpose of this research is to explore what type the metaphor elemts used in advertising slogans. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative. The data of research is a linguistic element contained whitin documented educational advertisements poster from official web sites from The Doon Wolrd School, The Asian School Dehradun, and Junior High School Maria Mediatrix. The researcher used classified of Saragih’s theory about noun-noun, noun-verb, noun-adjective to disscuss the lexical metaphor reinforces the meaning of advertising slogans so easily understood by readers. This research collects data used documention analysis. Based on the findings, it showed that this research highlighted the The types of metaphor containe din 3 data that have been in the analysis form first finding 2 data containing noun-noun metaphor type and 1 data containing noun-verb metaphor. To analyze the theory by Saragih, Researcher going to use three components of metaphor/vehicle, meaning/topic, and connection/ground there is logical linkage between of them. From all the results of the analysis can also be concluded conventional metaphor is the viewpoint of the school advertismeents use of metaphors is more. Through 3 data that has been analyzed, it appears that all metaphor have a relation with literal mesning. The relaltionship is apparent after analysis with metaphorical theory.
