Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to analyze the connotative meaning contained in the song lyrics on Adele's album 21. Connotative meaning is an additional meaning of an emotional or associative nature, which often provides a deep dimension to a literary or musical work. Album 21 was chosen because the lyrics are full of emotions, personal experiences and rich symbolism, making it an interesting object to analyze. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a semantic approach. Data in the form of song lyrics in album 21 were collected through document analysis. Analysis is carried out by identifying and interpreting words, phrases and sentences that contain connotative meaning, as well as exploring how this meaning contributes to the overall message of the song. The research results show that Adele uses various connotative meanings, such as the meaning of love, loss, hope and betrayal, to convey her emotions and personal experiences in depth. The use of connotative meaning in these song lyrics not only strengthens the aesthetic appeal, but also helps listeners feel a stronger emotional connection to the song. It is hoped that this research can contribute to semantic studies, especially in understanding the use of connotative meaning in popular musical works, as well as becoming a reference for future researchers who wish to study the relationship between music and linguistic meaning.
