Abstract

ABSTRACT In today’s education world, teaching and learning has affected by the rapid development of information and communication technology. This rapid development has made it easier for teachers and students to access the internet as a teaching and learning facility. It also affects the quality of teaching and learning of students. Since access to internet technology was discovered, almost everything related to education can be found on the internet. One of the internet technology used is Google Translate. In the process of English learning, Google Translate has an important role because it helps students to translate. The aim of this research is to find out the perceptions of the students regarding Google Translate in the context of translation class. This research used a qualitative approach with descriptive method. The subject of this research is the sixth-semester students of the English Education major at State Islamic University Raden Intan Lampung. Documentation, interview, and questionnaire are the instruments used in this research. The results of the research are divided into two categories: positive and negative perceptions. The results of using Google Translate are good for a few reasons, including the fact that it is easy to use and provides numerous features also available in a variety of languages. In a negative perspective, the results provided by Google Translate are sometimes inaccurate and did not match with what is intended. Keywords: Google Translate, Perception, Translation.
