Abstract

ABSTRACT Read, Ask, Paraphrase (RAP) strategy is a strategy that can help students to improve memory about the main ideas and details of a particular text that offers many benefits for students in reading activities. This research aimed to find out whether there was a significant influence ofthe Read, Ask, Paraphrase (RAP) strategy on the reading comprehension of tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Waway Karya in the academic year 2023/2024. The method of this research was quasi-experimental. The population of this research was all of the students at tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Waway Karya. The researcher used two classes as the sample of research namely experimental and control class. It consisted of 30 students inexperimental class (X.2) and 34 students in control class (X.1). The data collecting technique were pre-test and post-test. The instrument of research was reading comprehension descriptive text which consisted of 20 multiple choice items test. The researcher analyzed the data by usingSPSS version 25.0. Based on the data analysis, the result can be seen from sig. (2-tailed) of the equal variance assumed in the independent sample test table where the sig. (2-tailed) obtained 0.005. It is lower than α = 0.05 and it means that Ha was accepted. Therefore, the researcher concluded that there was significant influence of Read, Ask, Paraphrase (RAP) Strategy towards students’reading comprehension at the tenth grade at SMAN 1 Waway Karya in the Academic Year of2023/2024.
