Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was aimed to find out whether there is significant increase of students’ ability of writing descriptive text by using POWER (Prepare, Organize, Write, Edite, Revise) strategy at the seventh-grade students of MTS Miftahul Ulum Bandar Lampung. This research was conducted by using classroom action research, which carry out through four steps, they were plan, action, observation, and reflection. This research was conducted in three cycles. The subject of this research was the seventh-grade students of MTS Miftahul Ulum Bandar Lampung in academic year 2024/2025. It consists of 20 students. The technique of analyzing the data of this research was a quantitative and qualitative approach. The quantitative data were taken from a written test. The qualitative data were taken from the observation sheet. The result of data analysis showed that there was increase students’ ability of writing descriptive text from each cycle. The data showed that the students’ score in pre-test was 1,015, and the students’ mean score was 50.75 or only 3 students passed minimum mastery criterion (KKM); the students’ score in post-test 1 was 1,333 with the students’ mean score 66.65 or 10 students passed KKM; and the students’ score in post-test 2 was 1,480 with the students’ mean score 74.00 or 15 students passed KKM; and the students’ score in post-test 3 was 1,607 with the students’ mean score 80.35 or 17 students passed KKM. Based on the data above, it can be concluded that students mean score in each cycle by using POWER Strategy at grade VII-A was increased from cycle 1 to cycle 3. So, applying POWER strategy was increase students’ ability in writing descriptive text. it can be inferred that the implementation of POWER strategy to increasing students’ understanding in writing descriptive text was categorized successful.
