Abstract
ABSTRACT AN ERROR ANALYSIS ON THE ABSTRACT OF THE CRITICAL ACADEMIC WRITING FINAL ASSIGNMENT MADE BY FIFTH-SEMESTER ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDENTS AT RADEN INTAN STATE ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY LAMPUNG BY USING GRAMMARLY BY INSANIA FADHALULA TAMARA NPM. 1911040363 Academic writing is one of the English for Specific Purposes, which is considered difficult. Abstract is one of the elements which should be given more attention. An abstract is a succinct description that encapsulates the full study. Writing and grammar cannot be separated because to have good writing, writers need to know and pay attention to grammar. Grammar allows writers to organize their sentences. This research aims to find the type of errors and the dominant errors in students’ abstracts and to determine whether the students can recognize their errors in the abstract or not. The research design of this research was qualitative. The subject of this research was grammatical errors in the Critical Academic Writing Abstract made by fifth-semester students at Raden Intan State Islamic University Lampung. In collecting data, the researcher got the documents from the lecture on Critical Academic Writing subject, Mrs. Nurul Puspita, M.Pd, in the form of a PDF through a Google Drive. After collecting the documents, the researcher analyzed the errors through four steps: identifying data collection, classifying the errors, calculating the frequencies of errors, and describing the errors. As a result, the researcher found the total number of errors was 260. The researcher concluded that the types of errors made by the students classified in Grammarly (correctness feature) were spelling 69 items (27%), grammar105 items (40%), punctuation 86 items (33%) The most frequent error made by students was grammar (40%) and the least error was spelling (27%).
