Abstract

ABSTRACT A noun phrase is a phrase with a noun or pronoun as its headword. Noun phrase typically name of people, place, things or idea. One increasingly popular form of media is TEDx videos, which serve as platforms for sharing inspiring ideas and concepts. This research aims to find out: 1) what are the types of noun phrase in “Break the Glass Ceiling” TEDxLSPR video by Prilly Latuconsina? 2) What is the most dominant type of noun phrase in “Break the Glass Ceiling” TEDxLSPR video by Prilly Latuconsina? This research was descriptive qualitative because the data were the script of “Break the Glass Ceiling” TEDxLSPR video by Prilly Latuconsina. There were some steps in collecting data such as looking for the video on Youtube website, watched and listened the video and copy the scripts. In data analysis, this research used Greenbaum theory to classify the types of noun phrase. The researcher used validator to validity the data. The results of this research were the researcher found that there are five types of noun phrases based on Greenbaum theory. There are about 55 noun phrases formed by determiner and noun itself. There are 11 noun phrases formed by premodifier + noun. Besides, there are also some noun phrases that formed by determiner + modifier (pre and post) + noun. There are 38 noun phrases formed by determiner + premodifier + noun and there are 11 noun phrases formed by determiner + Noun + postmodifier. There are 2 noun phrases formed by determiner + premodifier + noun + postmodifier. In addition, the most dominant type of noun phrase is the first type (determiner + noun) with 55 numbers of noun phrases and the percentages is 47%. Keywords: Noun phrase, types, tree diagram
