Abstract

ABSTRACT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ENGLISH CAMP PROGRAM ON SANTRIS’ SPEAKING IMPROVEMENT: A CASE STUDY AT PONDOK TAHFIDZ QUR'ANIC SCHOOL OF DEWAN DAKWAH LAMPUNG By: Daka Ramadhan This research was about finding out a case study on how the English Camp program at one of the well-known Islamic boarding school that was conducted on December 25th – 30th 2023. The English Camp program was initiated by Pondok Tahfidz to do a noble reasonable thing for all the santris, one and only, to create a positive environment where everybody could speak English to their fullest potential without being judged, various activity of speaking that glorifies both communicative approach and fluency. More importantly, the reason behind all of this is to see self-confidence emerges in each of Santris‟ mentality regarding speaking English. This research aimed to know how the Implementation of the English Camp program on Santris‟ speaking improvement at Pondok Tahfidz Qur‟anic School of Dewan Dakwah Lampung in the academic year 2023/2024. The research design of this research was qualitative research using a case study approach. The samples of this research were two twelfth graders santris at Pondok Tahfidz Qur‟anic School of Dewan Dakwah Lampung. The researcher used a purposive sampling technique to collect the sample. In collecting the data, the researcher used in-depth interviews and observation of the respondents. Then, the researcher analyzed the data by organizing the data, reading through all the data, coding the data, and interpreting the meaning of the themes. According to the result of the research, it was found that Participant One highlighted the camp's emphasis on regular practice and the repetitive nature of speaking activities was crucial in solidifying key language skills and phrases. Engaging in speaking drills and lively discussions helped warm up participants for more intensive lessons, gradually building their comfort and proficiency in expressing themselves in English. Meanwhile, Participant Two highlighted the iii supportive environment of the camp as pivotal in boosting self�confidence. The safe space created by positive interactions and encouragement from peers allowed for fearless experimentation with language and the taking of risks. Engaging in discussions, role-plays, and various group activities simulated real-life scenarios, providing practical experience that significantly bolstered their confidence in using English effectively.
