Abstract
ABSTRACT Language is a tool used to communicate ideas to other people. Whether intentionally or not, people classify or label themselves based on their gender, color, ethnicity, or religion when they interact with others or the society. In sociolinguistic, this kind of phenomena called gender stereotypes. Gender stereotypes refers to the generalized views or preconceptions about attributes, characteristic, or roles that are ought to be possessed by, or performed by, men and women. These stereotypes often stem for cultural norms and can influence various aspects of society, including individual behavior, career choices, and even the perception of oneself and others. The objective of this research focus on; 1) finding what kind of gender stereotype phenomena in raya and the last dragon movie. 2) To know how gender stereotype presenting in raya and the last dragon movie. This research used qualitative descriptive analysis, using dialogue in the transcript from raya and the last dragon movie. The data were collected by downloading raya and the last dragon movie via disney+, downloading the transcript from the movie, watching raya and the last dragon separately and pay attention to the transcript, analyzing the dialogue and classifying the data using David Brannon theory, interpreting the data base on research question and then making conclusion, and to increase the validity of the data, the researcher used investigative triangulation in which the validation was confirmed by an expert related to the research. The result of this research revealed that gender stereotype found in the main character using theory that discovered by David Brannon. Which is four kind of gender stereotyped, the researcher found a total 37 dialogues that contain gender stereotype. Give 'em hell is the most frequently found with a total of 13 dialogues and 7 belong to the main character. Then the least found is the sturdy oak with a total of 5 dialogues and 2 of them belong to the main character. Keyword: Sociolinguistic, Gender Stereotypes, Movie
