Abstract
ABSTRACT Lexical cohesion creates connections between words within a text, aiding readers in comprehending the content and its meaning. Each type of lexical cohesion plays a crucial role in conveying the text’s message. This study aims to identify the kinds of lexical cohesion used and determine the most dominant type of lexical cohesion in The Help movie script. A descriptive qualitative method was employed to analyze the data in this study. The data comprised the movie script of "The Help," containing the dialogue of all characters across 144 pages. The analysis utilized Halliday and Hasan's theory to identify types of lexical cohesion. The data analysis techniques included data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. To determine the predominant type of lexical cohesion, percentages were calculated manually. The research findings revealed five types of lexical cohesion in the data. Repetition was the most frequent, with 27 instances, accounting for 54%. Synonyms appeared 6 times (12%), superordinates 2 times (4%), general words 6 times (12%), and collocations 9 times (18%). Repetition emerged as the most dominant type of lexical cohesion in the movie script. Keyword : Lexical Cohesion, Movie script qualitative Research
