Abstract

ABSTRACT Reading is an essential skill for second or foreign language learners in academic context. It is a skill that must be acquired by students in order to understand reading comprehension. Students’ habit of watching video with English subtitle is possibly way to enrich their reading comprehension. This research aimed to know the correlation between the students habit of watching video with English subtitle and their reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMPN 2 Merbau Mataram. This research used descriptive quantitative reseach method with correlation as its design, by shared the questionnaire and reading comprehension test as the instrument, this research used 66 students eighth grade at SMPN 2 Merbau Mataram, in analyzed the data this researcher used Hypothetical test to know the correlation between two variables. The students’ habit of watching video with English subtitle and reading comprehension were correlated with the hypothetical test, it can be seen that the score of Sig 2 tailed were 0.017. As the criteria acceptance of hypothesis test if Ha is accepted if Sig. < α = 0.05, HO is accepted if Sig. 2α = 0.05. Based on the result the sig 2 tailed were 0.017 < 0.05 were lower than the criteria, it can be concluded that the HO was rejected and Ha accepted, There is Significant Correlation between the students’ habit of watching video with English subtitle and reading comprehension.
