Abstract

ABSTACT This study is motivated by the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), which has increasingly been integrated into various human tasks, including academic writing. In the context of thesis writing, students often encounter numerous challenges, such as formulating arguments, structuring their work, and ensuring clarity and coherence. Therefore, this research, titled "An Analysis of Artificial Intelligence Chatbot Used by English Education Students in Completing Their Thesis," aims to explore how AI chatbots assist students in the thesis writing process and the outcomes of their usage. This qualitative descriptive study gathered data through in�depth interviews with students who employed AI chatbots during their thesis work. The findings reveal that AI chatbots significantly aid students in four key stages of thesis writing: planning, drafting, editing, and finalization. During the planning stage, chatbots help generate ideas and outline the thesis structure. In the drafting stage, they assist in developing coherent content and maintaining academic tone. In the editing stage, chatbots offer grammar corrections, style improvements, and ensure adherence to academic standards. AI chatbots offer valuable assistance in correcting grammar, identifying relevant studies, and paraphrasing. Finally, in the finalization stage, they help with abstract and conclusion. The use of AI chatbots not only enhances time efficiency but also improves the overall quality of the theses. However, continuous reliance on AI chatbots may have negative effects, such as diminishing student creativity and critical thinking skills. Therefore, it is recommended that AI chatbots be used as supportive tools rather than substitutes for human intelligence, ensuring that students develop their own academic skills.
