Abstract

ABSTRACT The usage of the language style or figure of speech in ―a song is very important as a tool to convey the messages as well as beauty and to give a colour and particular effect to the listeners or readers‖. Figure of speech is sometimes difficult to interpret for general listeners, because they have different ability. This research was created to investigates language style. The language style was involves lyric from the top 5 songs in Billboard. The data was obtained from the lyrics presented by the top 5 songs in Billboards on spotify and youtube music channel. The data was analyzed descriptively depend on the language style especially figurative language in lyrics of the songs. The researcher explored the data analysis by using theories and relevant studies. The research method was used descriptive qualitative reseach. The procedure of research conducted listening the song, reading the lyric script, finding the data, interpret the meaning of the lyric and analyze the data. The kinds of the language style indicated from the lyrics was utterance or stating phrases or sentences in the lyrics. The findings of the research showed that the types of figurative language there were Simile, Metaphor, Synecdoche, Irony, Symbolism, Personification. Finally, the researcher hopes that this study can give a contribution for the next researchers who are interested in the techniques of persuasion research by using other theories that more complete and better.
