Abstract

ABSTRACT The students' writing abilities were low because they lack vocabulary, grammar, and low motivation during the teaching and learning process. The students felt difficulty in writing, and they must be able to have good critical thinking, which made them confused. This research aimed to investigate the difficulties faced by the students in writing recount text. This research used the qualitative method, data collection technique used interviews, and documentation. The data analyzed used the steps as follows; the first step was data collected based on the interview and documentation to know the student's difficulties in writing recount text. The second step was data display which described the assembly of information that permits drawing and action-taking. After analysis, the data was displayed in the discussion, and the last step was conclusion drawing where the research made a conclusion to answer the research question. The data used methodological triangulation. Based on the data analysis, of the five aspects of writing students felt the most difficulty in using vocabulary and language use, underlining the importance of tailored interventions and instructional approaches to enhance their writing proficiency. The data also revealed widespread content-related challenges, especially in vocabulary, the language used, and information effectively. The result of this study could customize the interventions and instructional methods to improve students' writing skills. Keywords: Recount Text, Students Difficulties, Writing Ability
