Abstract

ABSTRACT DEIXIS ANALYSIS IN CONVERSATIONS ON BRIGHT AN ENGLISH COURSE TEXTBOOK FOR S MP/MTS GRADE VII By SITI NURHAYATI The title of this research is " Deixis Analysis in Conversations on Bright Book an English Course for SMP/MTs grade VII‖. The objectives of this research to describe types of deixis and to find out the most dominant deixis used in conversations on bright book an English course for SMP/MTs grade VII in English Language Learning based on the taxonomy of the deixis developed by Levinson's theory. In conducting this research employed the script conversation in the bright book an English course for SMP/MTs grade VII. The data in this study was qualitative; the researcher employed a qualitative research strategy to analyze the subject. The descriptive method used in this research to describe the type of deixis found in conversations on bright book an English course for SMP/MTs grade VII. The researcher finds 132 utterances of conversation which classifies into six types. They were people deixis, place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. The people deixis, of all conversation of the English textbook is 106 utterances which is the percentage 80%. place deixis in all conversation of the English textbook is 4 utterances which is the percentage is 3%. The next function is time deixis is 6 utterances with 5%, discourse deixis with 9 utterances with 7 %, social deixis with 7 utterances with 5%. The conclusion is all conversation of seven grade English textbook on bright book an English course for SMP/MTS grade VII used all type of deixis in their conversation though the amount and percentage were different.
