Abstract

ABSTRACT Language style is variation of language that used by speaker or writer as an alternative in using language and the function of language style to giving information, motivation, or express their ideas, and feelings. By understanding them people can do conversation appropriate with our condition, than for teacher can helping in teaching learning process to vocabulary enrichment and help them as the media.. This research used qualitative descriptive method in which the data were collected from the Nessie‟s twitter account at timeframe January until June 2022. The aims of this research were described and identified how many types of language style and the function of language that occurs in Twitter updates by Nessie Judge account. The researcher choose Martin Joos, and mandle and kriszner theory to investigating language style and Leech to the function of language theory. The result of this research is the researcher found 71 utterance from the data by Nessie Judge account in her twitter at timefram January – June 2022. Than, these utterance classified and analyzed language style by using Joos, Mandle and Krizner theory and function of language by using Leech theory. There are eight types of language styles used in her twitter updates namely Frozen, Formal, Informal, Colloquial, Consultative, Casual, Slang, and Intimate style, and there are five function of language namely Informational, Expressive, Directive, Aesthetic, and Phatic. The most dominant of language style and the function of language that Nessie used is Formal Style and informational function. Key words: Function of Language, Language Style, Twitter
