Abstract

ABSTRACT Discussion is an activity in which the class breaks into small group to discuss topic,Problem,or issue effectively. It involves a collective thinking process where students communicate directly with the teacher,this method emphasizes active student participation with the teacher or moderator organizing and directing the discussion in class. The purpose of this research was to find out whether there was an effect of the Small Group Discussion on Students' Speaking Skill At The Eleventh Grade of SMA S YP Unila Bandar Lampung in the 2023/2024 academic year. This research used quantitative methods and a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test as instruments to collect research data. The population of this research was all the eleventh grade students of SMA S YP Unila Bandar Lampung for the 2023/2024 academic year. This research sample consisted of two classes, namely class XI.3 with a total of 35 students as the experimental class, and class XI.4 with a total of 35 students as the control class. This mean that the total number of samples for this research was 70. The sample for this research was determined using a cluster random sampling technique. The results showed that there was a significant difference in student scores before and after treatment. This research used hypothesis testing, especially the T-test, to find out whether the Small Group Discussion had a significant effect on students' speaking scores. And the results show that Sig. (pvalue) = 0.045 < a = 0.05. So Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It could be concluded that there was a significant effect of using Small Group Discussion Technique the on Students' Speaking Skill At The Eleventh Grade of SMA S YP Unila Bandar Lampung in the 2023/2024 academic year.
