Abstract

ABSTRACT AN ANALYSIS OF FACTORS INFLUENCING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL: A QUALITATIVE STUDY IN THE ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMK DARUL A’MAL KOTA METRO BY PERIANI The research titled "Analysis of Factors Influencing Students' Speaking Skills: A Qualitative Study in the Eleventh Grade of SMK Darul A’mal Kota Metro‖ was conducted based on the fact that many students still experience difficulties in speaking English. The purpose of this research is to identify the factors that influence the speaking skills of eleventh-grade students at SMK Darul A’mal Kota Metro. This research adopts theories from Brown, focusing on linguistic, socio-cultural, and psychological factors, and from Nguyen Tuan and Mai, emphasizing performance conditions, listening ability, topical knowledge, and feedback. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. data were collected through interviews and questionnaires from a teacher and eight students with varying speaking skill in the eleventh grade. The data analysis model used in this research is the Miles and Huberman model, through stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the analysis show that students' speaking skills are influenced by lack of vocabulary, weak grammar, inaccurate pronunciation, self-confidence, motivation, anxiety, preparation, time, influence of family and friends, as well as psychological aspects. Listening skills and constructive feedback are also important. This research supports the theory that linguistic, socio-cultural, psychological factors, performance conditions, listening ability, topical knowledge, and feedback influence speaking skills.
