Abstract
ABSTRACT Nowadays era, language became as people’s social, culture, and personal identities system in order to build general communication. Somehow people tend to violate the communication principal, or simply making mistakes even in interpreted literal meaning in context of basic communication, in pragmatics, it means flouts the maxim. When people flout a maxim, means they have some particular reasons to be expressed. This study has been done to know what kinds of maxim and dominant also to found out what were the possible reasons in Coco movie 2017. This study used descriptive-qualitative research. The dialogue utterances mostly flouted by the main characters (Miguel and Hector) in the Coco movie served as the data for this study. This study used two types of triangulation techniques, which were investigator and theoretical triangulation. This study found that there were four types of flouting maxim, which were flouting of maxim quantity, quality, relation, and manner, and also was dominated by flouting of maxim relation. From the calculation of all types of maxims, it is shown that there were 15 of data utterances. They were flouting of maxim quantity (3 data) or 20%, flouting of maxim quality (4 data) or 27%, flouting of maxim manner (2) or 13%, and the most dominant one, flouting of maxim relation (6 data) or 40%.
