Abstract
ABSTRACT There are many rules in grammar that cannot be ignore; articles, part of speech, modal, etc. Part of the grammar that is considered to be must difficult for Indonesian students is tenses. This research focused on error analyzing on students explanation text in using simple present tense made by students based on corder theory and to classify the types of errors at eleventh grade of MA Nurul Islam Air Bakoman. Thus research was a qualitative research. The result of the data analysis showed that the usage of simple present tense in writing explanation text was a little difficult to the students of eleventh grade of MA Nurul Islam Air Bakoman. The total of error of omission was 17 errors or 25,7%, error of selection was 38 errors or 57,5% and the total error of selection was 38 errors or 57,5%. The conclusion in this research was the most error in using simple present tense in writing explanation text at the eleventh grade of MA Nurul Islam Air Bakoman was the error of selection. These errors were conducted because most of the students not clearly understand about the rules of target language well. So, the students generalized the rule and applied it incompletely.
