Abstract

Writing is needed for students because writing a basic of language skills. In writing process was an activity to produce a well written language. The students’ writing skill of MTs Negeri 1 Bandar Lampung is still low especially in writing descriptive text. Some techniques were needed by teacher to overcome that problem. One of techniques is Tree Diagram Technique (TDT). The objective of this research is to know whether the use of Tree Diagram Technique (TDT) influence for teaching writing of descriptive text at the eighth grade of MTs Negeri 1 Bandar Lampung in 2017/2018 academic year or not. Quasi experimental design was used in this research. The population was eighth grade of MTs Negeri 1 Bandar Lampung. The total sample in this research was 323 students that were taken from two classes, VIII A and VIII D, by using Cluster Random Sampling. In collecting the data, an instrument was descriptive writing test. After giving the post-test, the data was analyzed by using normality and homogeneity test. From the data analysis, it was found that the result of the test was tobserved (2.21) with tcritical (1.684), it means that the score of tobserved was higher than tcritical, so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, the use of Tree Diagram Technique (TDT) is influence for teaching writing of descriptive text. Keywords: Descriptive text, Tree Diagram, Quasi Experimental Design, Writing Ability.
