Abstract

ABSTRACT Reading is essential so that students can read the truth, namely, understand the contents of the reading by capturing information quickly, precisely, and accurately. However, it turns out that reading skills in several schools are only able to read at the level of being able to read but have not been able to understand reading properly and correctly. This research aimed to know whether there was a significant influence of using the Quantum Teaching towards students reading comprehension in report text. Based on preliminary research at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sekampung Udik, students’ reading score were low. This research used quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was the eleventh grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sekampung Udik. The sample was 54 students that taken in two classes, XI MIPA 2 for the experimental class and XI IPS for the control class. Quantum Teaching method was used in experimental class, while in the control class the researcher used Contextual Teaching and Learning. In collecting the data, the researcher used a test for the instrument there are post-test, and pre-test. The result of pre-test before using Quantum Teaching method the student's reading comprehension was low. After using Quantum Teaching method was better. It found that significant difference between control class and the experimental class. The mean in pre-test control class was 50.28 and the post-test in control class was 53.01 while the mean of pre-test in experimental class was 56.18 and in the post-test in experimental class was 80.56. The conclusion can be drawn as follows: there was a significant influence of using Quantum Teaching method towards students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade in one of senior high schools in Sekampung Udik East Lampung in the academic year 2024. The value of significance obtained by the Mann-Whitney was Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 < 0.005. It means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted.
