Abstract

ABSTRAK Muhammadiyah pada awalnya hanya berkembang di wilayah Pulaujawa saja, namun dalam waktu cepat nyebar di berbagai daerah di Indonesia, dan telah masuk dan berkembang sekitar tahun 1920-an diseluruh wilayah Sumatera yang termasuk di Metro. Berdirinya Muhammadiyah Cabang Metro yang pertama kali berdiri di Daerah Lampung Tengah yaitu sejak zaman penjajahan Belanda. Muhammadiyah Metro mulai merintis amal usaha pertama dengan membuat sekolah bernama HIS Muhammadiyah Metro dibuka di rumah penghulu jumlah 50 siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui awal mula berdirinya pendidikan Muhammadiyah di Metro hingga berkembangan pendidikan Muhammadiyah di Kota Metro. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini ialah metode penelitian sejarah. Metode ini memuat empat tahapan penelitian diantaranya yaitu heuristik, kritik sumber, interpretasi dan historiografi. Pengumpuan data atau sumber dilakukan dengan dengan observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi foto sekolah Muhammadiyah di Metro. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, perkembangan pendidikan Muhammadiyah di Kota Metro 1936-2000 dapat mendeskripsikan awal mula berdirinya. Mulai dari masa kolonial belanda, yang mana Muhammadiyah mengambil peran penting dalam upaya pengajaran bagi anak anak bumi putera hingga Muhammadiyah mengadopsi sistem pendidikan Belanda dengan mendirikan sekolah. Hingga Muhammadiyah mampu memadukan pembelajaran umum dengan pembelajaran agama pada sistem sekolah yang dibangunnya. Maka pertama kalinya Muhammadiyah Metro merintis berdirinya HIS Muhammadiyah tahun 1940. Setelah berdiriya HIS Muhammadiyah pendirian sekolah tidak hanya berhenti disitu melainkan berkembangnnya pendidikan Muhammadiyah dengan bertambahnya sekolah Muhammadiyah tinggatMIM, SD, MTs, SMP, SMA, SMK, dan perguruan tinggi. Sekolah Muhammadiyah juga berkembang di berbagai cabang dan ranting. The establishment of the Metro Branch of Muhammadiyah was first establishment in the Central Lampung area since the Dutch colonial era. Muhammadiyah Metro began pioneering the first charity business by opening a school called HIS Muhammadiyah Metro in the headmans house with 50 students. This research aims to find out the beginning of the establishment of Muhammadiyah education in Metro and development of Muhammadiyah education in Metro City. The research method used in this research is the historical research method. This method contains four research stages including heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. Data or source collection is carriedout by obserbation, interviews and photo documentation of Muhammadiyah School in Metro. Based on the results of research on the development of Muhammadiyah education in Metro City 1936-2000, we can describe its beginnings. Starting from the Dutch colonial period,where Muhammadiyah took an important role in teaching efforts for native children, until Muhammadiyah adopted the Dutcheducation system by establishing schools, until Muhammadiyah was able to combine general learning with religious learning in the school system it built. So, for the first time, Muhammadiyah Metro pioneered the establishment of HIS Muhammadiyah Metro of HIS Muhammadiyah in 1940. After the establishment of HIS Muhammadiyah, the estlishment of schools did not just stop there, but the development of Muhammadiyah education with the addition of Muhammadiyah school at MIM Elementary School level.
