ABSTRACT There are many problems that faced by the students in the process of learning English. These problems occur when the students learning speaking. Therefore, the researcher used the technique from Question Formulation Technique (QFT) to teach speaking. The objective of this research was to whether Question Formulation Techique is effective toward students‘ speaking ability at the eleventh grade of MAN 1 Bandar Lampung. In this research Quasi-Experimental Design with Non�Equivalent Controlled Group Design was used. The population of this research was the eleventh-grade students at MAN 1 Bandar Lampung with the total 496 students. The sample of this research consisted of 2 classes: 35 students in class XI MIA 2 as the experimental class and 36 students in class XI MIA 1 as the control class. In the collecting the data, the researcher used an instrument of speaking test. After giving pre-test and post-test, the researcher analyzed the normality and homogeneity distribution data using SPSS version 26. According to the data analysis calcuated using SPSS version 26, it obtained that the result of Sig. (2-tailed) in Independent Sample t-Test was 0.001, it was lower than < α = 0.05 and it means (H0) was rejected and (Ha) was accepted. It could be concluded that Question Formulation Technique is effective to increase the speaking ability of eleventh grade students at MAN 1 Bandar Lampung.
