Abstract

ABSTRACT THE INFLUENCE OF USING AUDIOBOOK MEDIA TOWARD STUDENTS’ LISTENING ABILITY AT THE FIRST SEMESTER OF THE TENTH GRADE OF SMA N 1 PADANG CERMIN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2021/2022 BY ELVA NOVRIANA Students in learning English, encounter some difficulities in listening. The problem was caused by the students who get bored during the listening section because the teacher use monotone media in teaching listening. Audiobook media was used in this research to solve the problem and aid the teaching learning process in listening. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a significant influence of using audiobook media toward Students’ Listening Ability at the first Semester of The Tenth Grade of SMA N 1 Padang Cermin in the Academic Year of 2021/2022. The researcher used a quantitative research in this research, more precisely an experimental research design, to be exact a quasi-experimental design. The researcher dealt with two class in this research, namely the experimental class (X MIPA 2) and the control class (X MIPA 4) consisting of 36 students in each class, 72 students in total. In order to collect the data, the researcher used tests as the instrument. The students did Pre-test before the treatment was given to the experimental class. The treatment was held three times by using Audiobook media for the experimental class, followed by post-test after the treatment was given. The researcher then analyzed the data by using SPSS 26 Based on the computation result by using independent sample t-test, it was found that Sig = 0,000 (0,000004) < α = 0.005. The result showed that the Sig. was 0,000 (0,000004) which less than the a = 0.005. Therefore, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected, it can be assumed that there is significant influence of using audiobook media toward students listening ability at the first semester of the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Padang Cermin in the academic year of 2021/2022.
