Abstract

This research isconducted based on the phenomena taking place in school thatthe students considered writing as the most difficult skill. The students do not know whether their writing was right or not because the students have to evaluate and revise by themselves; the students do not know the part that have to revise. In addition, the students are lack of motivation in learning writing because the class condition was less interesting. The students’ descriptive text writing score is below the criteria minimum mastery (KKM) at MA AL-Ma’mur Banjarsari Tanggamus.Therefore, this research discussesthe influence of using peer review technique in revision stage of teaching writing, especially for students’ descriptivetext writing ability. The objective of the research is to know whether or not there is a significant influence of using peer review technique toward students’ writing ability in descriptive text at the tenth grade of MA AL-Ma’mur Banjarsari Tanggamus in the academic year of 2016/2017. The methodology of this research was quasi experimental design with the treatment held in 3 meetings, 2 x 45 minutes for each meeting. The population of this research wasthe students at the second semester of the tenth grade. The total sample in this research was61 students that were taken from two classes, X1 and X2. In collecting the data, the researcher usedwriting test, there werepre-test and post-test. After gave the post-test, the researcher analyzed the data by using independent sample ttest. From the data analysis, it was found that the result of test wastobserved (4.3663) with tcritical (1.671),it means that the score of tobservedwas higher than tcritical, so Hawasaccepted. In result, there was a significant influence of using peer review technique toward students’ writing ability in descriptive text at the tenth grade of MA AL-Ma’mur Banjarsari Tanggamus in the academic year of 2016/2017.
