Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is aimed to find out the fulfillment and violation of maxims in thecontext of politeness principle. The writer uses discourse analysis method of the research to describe fulfillment and violation based on related theory of maxim by Leech. The unit of this research is utterance that are used by teacher in youtube video “Mengajar Procedure Text”. She uses himself as a main research instrument through transcribing, identifying and classifying the data which are needed from the teacher’s utterance of youtube video “Mengajar Procedure Text”. This research explains about the fulfillment and violation of approbation and agreement maxims that are used by teacher’s utterance in youtube video “Mengajar Procedure Text”. The findings that the researcher obtain from the analysis are several expressions which fulfillment and violated the maxim of approbation and agreement in politeness principle the theory that are initiated by Leech. The result of the research shows that four datum that fulfilled the approbation maxim, ten datum that violated the agreement maxim, four datum that violated maxim, while the violation of Approbation was not found in the teacher’s utterance.
