Abstract

ABSTRACT THE INFLUENCE OF USING THINK PAIR SHARE TECHNIQUE TOWARDS STUDENTS’ DESCRIPTIVE TEXT WRITING ABILITY AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF MTs AL-HIKAMUS SALAFIYAH IN THE SECOND SEMESTER OF 2015/2016 ACADEMIC YEAR This thesis was based on the phenomena happened in school, it was how many students liked writing but they can not develop ideas what they want to write. Technique that was used to teach students often make students felt bored to join the English lesson. Therefore, this thesis discussed the influence of using Think Pair Share technique in teaching writing, especially for students’ descriptive text writing. The objective of this study was to find out whether applying Think Pair Share technique affect the students’ achievement in writing descriptive text at the eighth grade of MTs Al-Hikamus Salafiyah in the second semester of 2015/2016 academic year. The research methodology used was quasi experimental design. the population of this research was the students at the second semester of the eighth grade of MTs Al-Hikamus Salafiyah. The sample of the research was chosen by using cluster random sampling technique. The writer chose sample VIII A as the experimental class, and another one class VIII B as the control class of this research. There were three steps in conducting this quasi experimental research: pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The treatment held in three meetings in 2 x 40 minutes for each class. The writer used pre-test and post-test to find out students’ descriptive text writing ability before treatment and after treatment. In collecting the data, the writer used the instrument in the form of written test. After giving post-test, the writer analyzed the data by using independent sample t-test. From the data analysis, it was found that the result of test was tobserved (2.50) with tcritical (1.68), it means that the score of tobserved was higher than tcritical (t-observed > t-critical ), so Ha is accepted. So, there was significant influence of using Think Pair Share technique towards students’ descriptive text writing ability at the eighth grade of MTs Al-Hikamus Salafiyah in the second semester of 2015/2016 academic year.
