Abstract

ABSTRACT Lexical meaning is the lowest meaning unit in a language's meaning system that can be separated from other comparable units. Contextual meaning is the meaning of a lexeme or word inside a context. A contextual definition is also a definition in which the term is used by embedding it in a larger expression containing its explanation. This research aims to find out : 1) What kind the lexical meanings are contained in a contextual sentence in the article of Chelsea FC – the 5th Stand application? 2) What are the contextual meanings used in the article of Chelsea FC – the 5th Stand application? This research was descriptive qualitative because the data were the article in Chelsea FC – The 5th Stand Application. There were some steps in collecting data such as download the application in play store or apple store, browsed thearticle in the application, read and find the contextual meaning and lexical meaning. In data analysis, this research used Miles and Huberman procedure, namely data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/ verification. The researcher use validator to validity. The result of this research werethe researcher analyzes the context of the sentences and determines the different lexical meanings that are present. The researcher found 5 contextual meanings contained in 5 articles in Chelsea FC - the 5th Stand Application. Based on this analysis, the researcher concluded that there are three categories of lexical meanings, namely lexicon, lexeme, and word. The researcher deduces the contextual meaning the speaker intended from this examination. Even though some of the words in the article have various meanings, others are readily guessed and misconstrued. The author's analysis, which sought to identify lexical meanings and their types as well as contextual and in�article meanings, produced results that support the idea that grammar is used in everyday life and that language is learned from a variety of sources. In this case, the articles in Chelsea FC - The 5th Sand Application are very educational and much better for enhancing one's proficiency and competence in the target language.
