Abstract

ABSTRACT An Instagram is one of popular social media. The function of Instagram is not just about selfie, like or comment, or repost, and interaction with the people, but Instagram can be a media or great educational tool that make the teaching and learning process especially in English learning was unique, interesting, and insightful through the features in Instagram. The research aims to know, whether there is a significant influence of using Instagram application towards students skill of writing procedure text. There were many obstacles faced by students in the process of learning English. One of the obstacles that occur to students in learning English is writing skill. The writing skill especially in writing procedure text of the students at SMPN 3 Natar, Lampung Selatan is still very low and needs to be improved. Because of this, the researcher used the Instagram as media to teach students in writing skill, especially writing procedure text. By used Instagram as the media, the students can develoved their ideas they have in written form by using Instagram, they can make their writing more creative and they can publish their writing. Thus, the students more interesting and can improve their writing skill especially in procedure text. The method of this research is quantitative by using a quasi�experimental design. The population in this study was the first semester ninth grade students at SMPN 3 Natar, Lampung Selatan that was consisted of 188 students. In taking the sample in this research, the researcher used cluster random sampling technique. The samples used were two classes for the experimental class and control class, in this study class IX A became the experimental class with a total of 32 students and IX B as the control class which consisted of 31 students. In data collecting, the researcher was used pre-test and post-test. After given the pre-test and post-test, the researcher analyzed the normality and homogeneous distribution data using SPSS v.24 to calculate the independent sample t-test. Based on the data analysis calculated using SPSS v.24, it was obtained that Sig. (2-tailed) of the equal variance assumed was 0.021 and α = 0.05. Ha is accepted if Sig. < α = 0.05 and Ho is accepted if Sig > α = 0.05. Its means that, Sig. 0.021 < α = 0.05. Therefore, Ha iii accepted. It can be concluded that there was a significant influence of using Instagram application toward students skill of writing procedure text at the ninth grade of SMPN 3 Natar, Lampung Selatan in the academic year of 2021/2022.
