Abstract

ABSTRACT Critical discourse analysis (CDA) is a type of discourse analytical research that primarily studies the way social power abuse, dominance, and inequality are enacted, reproduced and resisted by text and talk in the social and political context. The research aims to present Critical Discourse Analysis, especially in text structure of three selected articles from The Jakarta Post online newspaper. The writer analyzed the macro structure, superstructure, and micro structure in selected news headlines that discuss COVID-19 vaccination. The method of this research is qualitative by using the descriptive analysis technique by referring method with the reading technique and note taking technique. The compiled data analyzed by using Teun A. Van Dijk discourse analysis concept. The results of research showed every article has its own style and words in presenting the discourse text. The Jakarta Post News does not present all the text elements of Teun A. Van Dijk's concept in three selected news headlines. In macro structure, Jakarta uses a neutral headline. Three news discourses do not use provocative words in their headlines or leads. To convey the message to the readers, the Jakarta Post delivered the three news items sequentially from the first to the last paragraph. The microstructure The Jakarta Post's coverage of the third news, which is the early, middle, and towards the end of the COVID-19 period, is to take advantage of the opportunity to practice ideology to build a better and more positive government.
