Abstract

ABSTRACT THE INFLUENCE OF WHOLE BRAIN TEACHING METHOD TOWARDS STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 1 PUGUNG TANGGAMUS IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2022 By: EKA RAHMADANI In teaching and learning process in the class, there are a lot of students who find some difficulties in learning English. One of the difficulties that the students find in English learning activityia to speak English well. To solve this problem, the researcher applied Whole Teaching Method to increase students speaking ability. In this research the researcher wants to know how well the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Pugung master the language skills, especially mastery of speaking. The methodology of this research was quasi experimental design with treatment held in 3 meetings, 2x45 minutes for each meeting. This design used pre-test and post-test to find out students’ speaking ability before treatment and after the treatment. The population of this research was the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Pugung, Tanggamus which consisted of 79 students. One class as the experimental class was VIII.A and the other class was VIII.B. In collecting the data, the researcher used the instruments in the pre-test and post-test. The instrument was speaking test in oral from. After giving the post-test, the researcher then analyzed the data using t-test formula. From the data analysis, the researcher found the result t-test was 6,94 the critical value oft-criticalat degree of significance 5% and df= 51 was 1.67. So t-observed>t-critical, 6.94>1.67.the result of the calculation shows that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted the alternative hypothesis (Ho) is not accepted. In short, the researcher would like you say that using whole brain teaching method is one of good method in teaching speaking. It means that there is significant influence of use whole brain teaching method towards students’ speaking ability. Then, whole brain teaching on teaching speaking is recommended for English teachers to attract the students’ interest and solition in learning process.
