Abstract

ABSTRACT The Influence of Using Let’s Read Asia Towards Students’ Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text at the Eighth Grade of Second Semester of MTs N 2 Bandar Lampung in the Academic Year 2021/2022. By: Bella Adelia Amanda In learning English, reading is one of the English skills that must be mastered by the students. The students who can master reading skill, it will help them to understand the meaning of a text and also can increase students’ knowledge. The students’ reading comprehension in MTs N 2 Bandar Lampung is still low especially in reading narrative text. It can be seen from students’ reading score at the eighth grade. In addition, from 290 students, there were 31 students with a total percentage of 10,7% who got the score about 91- 100, there were 37 students with a total percentage of 12,7% who got the score about 81-90, 51 students with a total percentage of 17,5% who got the score about 76-80, 62 students with a total percentage of 21,3% who got the score about 71-75, 56 students with a total percentage of 19,5% who got the score about 66-70, 50 students with a total percentage of 17,3% who got the score about 60-65, 3 students with a total percentage of 1,0% who got the score less than 60. It means that most of students still faced many difficulties in learning reading especially in reading comprehension. Therefore, to solve the problem, this research used Let’s Read Asia which can be accessed through website to teach reading comprehension in narrative text. Let’s Read Asia is a digital libraries that presents many genres of reading book and the stories book are packaged in various language so it can increase students’ interest in reading. Let’s Read Asia can spread and develop literacy through fun reading activities, this can make the students more interesting in identify the information contained in the text. The objective of this research is to know whether there is any significant influence of using Let’s Read Asia towards students’ reading comprehension in narrative iii text at the eighth grade of second semester of MTs N 2 Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2021/2022. This research used quasi experimental design. In this research, the population was all of the students at the eighth grade of MTs N 2 Bandar Lampung. The sample of the research was taken from two classes, they were VIII D and VIII I which consisted of 72 students. In the experimental class, teaching reading comprehension by using Let’s Read Asia. Meanwhile, in control class, teaching reading comprehension by using textbook. The treatment were held in 3 meetings, because of pandemic situation, the meeting was held in 1 x 60 minutes for each class. In collecting data, this research used instrument in the form of multiple choice question which had been tried out before the treatment. The instrument was given in pre-test and post-test. Before giving the treatment, pre-test for both classes was given. Then, after conducting the treatment, the instrument was given in post-test. After giving pre-test and post-test, this research analyzed the data using SPSS to compute independent sample t-test. From the data analysis computed by using SPSS, it was obtained that Sig.= 0.000 and α = 0.05. it means Ha is accepted because Sig.< 0.05. it can be concluded that there was a significant influence of using Let’s Read Asia towards students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at the eighth grade of second semester of MTs N 2 Bandar Lampung. It can also be proved that learning reading comprehension by using Let’s Read Asia, the students were experienced fun and interested in learning activities because Let’s Read Asia presenting many interesting reading material with high quality pictures and illustration stories that can attract students’ attention in learning reading. Besides that, Let’s Read Asia improved each aspects of reading comprehension. Key Words: Let’s Read, Quasi Experimental Design, Reading Comprehension.
