ABSTRAK Hakikat sains atau yang disebut dengan istilah Nature Of Science (NOS) merupakan hakikat pengetahuan yang merupakan konsep yang kompleks melibatkan filosofi, sosiologi, dan historis suatu pengetahuan. hakikat sains ini merupakan landasan untuk berpijak dalam mempelajari IPA. Hakikat sains terbagi menjadi 3 yaitu sains sebagai produk, sains sebagai proses dan sains sebagai sikap. Sains sebagai produk merupakan makna alam dan berbagai fenomena/perilaku/karakteristik yang dikemas menjadi sekumpulan teori dan konsep, hukum, dan prinsip. Sains sebagai proses adalah proses memperoleh ilmu pengetahun. Sains sebagai sikap ilmiah adalah penanaman sikap-sikap dalam diri siswa (ilmuwan) ketika melaksanakan proses metode ilmiah (penyelidikan) dan proses pembelajaran IPA. Aspek-aspek hakikat sains terdiri dari empiris base, tentative, theoris and law, socio cultural embeddedness, creativity, scientific method, subjective. Salah satu instrument yang dapat digunakan adalah VNOS (View of Nature of Science) yang dikembangkan oleh Lederman, Abd-El-Khalick, Bell,dan Schwatz. Pemahaman tentang hakikat sains merupakan salah satu hal yang dapat mempengaruhi proses belajar mengajar sains. Meningkatkan pemahaman siswa tentang nature of science (NOS) melalui kegiatan pembelajaran akan dapat meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains dan sikap ilmiah yang dimiliki siswa, yang pada akhirnya akan terbentuknya konsep jangka panjang pada memori siswa. Kata kunci: Hakikat Sains, Nature of Sains (NOS), Sains, Hakikat sains dalam pembelajaran iii ABSTRACT The nature of science or also known as Nature of Science (NOS) is the nature of knowledge which is a complex concept involving philosophy, sociology, and the history of knowledge. the nature of science is the basis for the study of science. The nature of science is divided into 3, namely science as a product, science as a process and science as an attitude. Science as a product is the meaning of nature and various phenomena/behaviors/characteristics that are packaged into a set of theories and concepts, laws, and principles. Science as a process is the process of acquiring knowledge. Science as a scientific attitude is the cultivation of attitudes in students (scientists) when carrying out the scientific method process (investigation) and the science learning process. Aspects of the nature of science consist of empiris base, tentative, theoris and law, socio cultural embeddedness, creativity, scientific method, subjective. One of the instruments that can be used is VNOS (View of Nature of Science) developed by Lederman, Abd-El-Khalick, Bell, and Schwatz. An understanding of the nature of science is one of the things that can affect the teaching and learning process of science. Increasing students' understanding of the nature of science (NOS) through learning activities will be able to improve students' scientific process skills and scientific attitudes, which in turn will form long-term concepts in students' memory.
