Abstract
ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to find out the kinds of idioms and to analyze the meaning of each idiom in the subtitle of Moana movie written by Ron Clements and John Musker. This research method is a qualitative research. In analyzing the data used textual analysis, because the data in form of a text or subtitle of Moana movie. The data is the kinds of idioms found in the subtitle of Moana movie written by Ron Clements and John Musker. The results of this study show that there are 47 idioms in the subtitle of "Moana" movie by Ron Clements and John Musker. Then, the most dominant kind of idiom is Whole clause or sentence 34% with 16 idioms, while other kinds such as Prepositional phrase 32% with 15 idioms, Verb + object/complement (and/or adverbial) 17% with 8 idioms, and Compound 17% with 8 idioms, which means that this movie prefers to use idioms in the form of clauses or sentences. Based on the results of this study, it is concluded that the meaning of idioms cannot be translated directly. To understand the correct meaning of idioms, we must know the context of the sentence, the situation, and also the actions of the speaker in interacting. Keyword: Analysis, Idiom, Movie
